Planning the design of your home or office can seem difficult if you do not have drawing skills or know how to make a design layout. For those without a background in interior design, use one of several free virtual design programs to create the look of your interior.
SeeMyDesign is a free virtual design tool that lets you play with everything from wall paint to the layout of a space. Change the types of flooring in your design plan from laminate to wood flooring or tile with this program. Also choose the lighting in your design plan, which is different from many of the other virtual interior designers available.
Some options of SeeMyDesign are limited because it is in a testing phase, but it's still a great free tool to try out. Design a two-dimensional plan for a baby room, living room, bedroom, or home office, or try the advanced three-dimensional modelling feature, which also includes kitchen and home theatre plans. Design A Room
Design A Room is available from Armstrong Flooring, and it's a free virtual design tool that does not require registration to use; you simply click on a button labelled "Start Designing" to begin. Choose from these floor plans: kitchen, foyer, bathroom, bedroom, family room, dining room, home office or living room. Design A Room also features the ability to choose the decorating style you want, including casual country, contemporary, traditional, new traditional, transitional and global fusion. Try uploading your own images for placement into your design to personalise it.
The focus on design with this tool is flooring, ceilings, walls, cabinets, and counter tops, and your options in these categories are limited to actual products that Armstrong manufactures. However, Design A Room is still handy for those who want to explore interior design options, and you are not obligated to buy from their brand just because you use their tool. BHG Design Tools
The online website Better Homes and Gardens (BHG) offers not one but several virtual interior design tools: Color-a-Room, Color-a-Home, Plan-a-Garden, Design-a-Closet, Arrange-a-Room and Arrange-a-Deck. Instead of offering one comprehensive tool, they decided to make niche virtual design programs to help people with specific tasks. Many will find these tools to be more helpful than the all-in-one virtual designers that are available since other programs do not offer the wide range of design possibilities as the individual BHG tools.
With each tool, you have the ability to add in decorative accessories and change the dimensions of the floor plan to allow for better accuracy. Re-sizing and rotating can be done with all of the design elements in these programs. These design tools are free, but you will need to register with the website in order to use them.
