Hi, my name is Kindreth Hamilton and I'm a Licensed Acupuncturist and Chinese Medicine Herbalist at Hamilton Natural Medicine in South Hadley, Massachusetts. Today I'm going to be sharing with you how to treat a sinus infection naturally. The first example is with acupuncture and acupuncture is thousands of years old. It helps to illicit response from the nervous system; really seeing endorphins and having effect on neurotransmitters and a very common point if you're seeing an acupuncturist for a sinus infection would be large intestine 4 which is on your hand. And the needle doesn't go in very far as you can see and this particular point has an effect on your head and face area. Some other points that might be used would be some on your elbow; some in your face area to help alleviate the pain and the heat symptoms that you might be having from a sinus infection. The other way that you can treat a sinus infection is using Chinese herbal medicine and a formula would be prepared for your specific symptoms. And these, these are very commonly used along with other herbs in a larger formula. The first one is Xanthium fruit and it helps to treat sinusitis, headaches. It helps to drain nasal decongestion. It's use in combination with Magnolia flower; again, to drain nasal discharge and help unblock the nasal passages and if you're suffering from a sinus headache; one of the principal herbs is Sichuan Lovage Rhizome which you can see here and this is a primary herb that's use in lots of headache conditions; but would be use in sinus infection headaches as well. And sinus infection headaches usually occur in the frontal part of your face and Bai Zhu which is Atractylodis has an affinity for that region in the head. So it would be use int eh formula.for that reason. A third way that you can treat a sinus infection and help to prevent it is using nasal irrigation. You can use a neti pot which is very similar or you can use something like this. This is called Nasal Pure and this is nice because you don't have to turn your head to the side as you do at a neti pot. And what it does is; you put this part into your nose and you gently squeeze. There's a saline solution inside and it helps to wash your nasal cavity; so to clear out bacteria and mucus and nasal discharge. You can use it during cold and flu season; if you have allergies or problems with your ears, it's also beneficial for that. So using acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine or nasal irrigation are three ways that you can treat a sinus infection naturally.
