The Canon Powershot A400, model PC1080, is a small, lightweight digital camera that has different features, such as a retractable 3.2x digital and 2.2x optical zoom with combined 7.0x zoom power. The camera also features different colours and themes to use for taking pictures.

The camera features a 3.2x digital zoom and a 2.2x optical zoom. There is a 1.5 inch TFT LCD monitor, a built-in flash and a real-image optical zoom viewfinder. The Canon PC1080 also has 3.2 megapixels and includes an SD card slot, along with NTSC or PAL video out. There is a slot for a USB cable for use with a computer.

Shooting

The shooting modes on the camera include auto, manual, stitch assist and movies. There is also a special mode with different scenes such as night, foliage, snow and portrait. There are photo effects such as vivid, black and white, and low sharpening. The focal length on the lens is 5.9 (W) - 13.2 (T) mm f/3.8. There is a white balance control that can be set to auto or used with a preset such as daylight, cloudy, tungsten, fluorescent or a custom setting.

Image Storage and Playback

The images taken with the camera are stored on an SD Memory card in Exif 2.2 or JPEG format. The images can be compressed in the modes superfine, fine or normal. Playback on the Canon digital camera has different modes including single image, index, magnified, auto rotate, rotation, histogram, sound memo and auto play.

Power Supply

The camera requires two AA batteries or two rechargeable AA Nickel-metal hydride, or NiMH, batteries. There is also a compact power AC adaptor kit for the camera. The camera has a shooting capacity of approximately 300 with the LCD display on, and 750 with the LCD display off. The playback time is 270 minutes with fully charged battery.

System Requirements

The camera requires that you have a computer running Windows 98, 98SE, Me, 2000, XP or higher with a Pentium 150MHz CPU or above. You will need a Pentium 300MHz CPU if you are using Windows XP. You also need a USB port and a CD-ROM drive. To use this camera with a Macintosh computer, you need to have Mac OS 9.0 to 9.2, or Mac OS X versions 10.3, 10.2 or 10.3.
