The Kawasaki Mule 550 is an compact off-road utility vehicle that offers a mix of the off-road versatility of an ATV and the storage and hauling capacity of a small pickup truck. It is slightly larger than a full-size ATV and is commonly used by farmers and hunters, as well as in various commercial and industrial environments.


The Mule 550 features a small, tilting cargo bed at the rear that is capable of storing up to 159 Kilogram. A tow hitch is optional equipment from Kawasaki and expands the Mule's hauling capacity by 408 Kilogram. At the front of the Mule is a bench seat and automotive controls, such as a steering wheel and brake and accelerator pedals.

Engine and Drivetrain

A 286-cc, four-stroke, air-cooled single-cylinder engine powers the Mule 550. It has a bore of 78 millimetres and a stroke of 60 millimetres. The Mule is equipped with a locking gear differential that can be set to increase and decreasing traction accordingly. Controlling the engine and drivetrain is an automatic transmission with three gears: forward, neutral and reverse.
