Ibanez Gio GAX Specifications
The Ibenez Gio GAX series has several different models. (guitar chord image by Alex Motrenko from Fotolia.com)

The Ibanez Gio GAX series of guitars (commonly referred to as "GAX") is an affordable and extremely popular guitar line. All GAX models feature a double-cutaway body, dual humbucking pickups and a three-way switch. GAX guitars are known for simplicity, a clean sound and for being a great value for the money. All GAX models are well suited to many styles of music. The GAX70 is the most popular of the three GAX models, as it has numerous features and a lot of bang for the buck.

Gio GAX30

The GAX30 is offered in three stock finishes: black (called "black knight"), white and transparent red. This model has a mahogany body and two humbucking pickups: Ibanez AX1 as the neck pickup and an Ibanez AX2 for the bridge. This model has a fixed bridge and medium frets. It has only one volume knob and one tone knob.

Gio GAX50

The GAX50 features a maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard and an agathis body. The bridge is a Short Stop II and it has PSND humbucking pickups in the neck and bridge positions. The fretboard has a pearl-dot inlay. Like the GAX30, it has only one knob for volume and one for tone. The colour options are the same as the GAX30's.

Gio GAX70

The GAX70 has 22 frets, a rosewood fretboard, a maple bolt-on neck and a mahogany body. It has a Tune-O-Matic bridge and four knobs: a tone and volume knob for the neck pickup and tone and volume knobs for the bridge pickup. Both pickups are PSND humbuckers. It has a Full-Tune II bridge which allows you to move the blocks holding up each individual string, making string-intonation adjustments simple. The bridge's outer thumbscrews allow for easy bridge-height adjustment as well, requiring no tools. The GAX70 is available in colours black, transparent red and metallic grey.

Gio GAX75

The GAX75 model has 22 large frets, a rosewood fretboard, maple neck and a body made of agathis. The fretboard also has pearl-dot inlays. It is nearly identical to the GAX70 model but has a Shortstop II Downshifter bridge. This allows you to instantly switch to drop-D tuning (the sixth string drops to a D instead of the standard E). This model is available in a grey pewter colour.
