Towels are essential to making every bathroom complete. The methods used for hanging towels should be simple and neat. Hanging towels can quickly look dishevelled if stuffed over racks haphazardly. Consider a few different ideas for hanging towels to keep these bathroom essentials not only handy, but attractive.

The standard towel racks that came with your home don't need to limit your towel placement. Consider moving the existing racks or adding new ones for well-placed hanging towels. Think about the area where each type of towel is used. A small rack or ring on the wall above or beside the sink is ideal for hand towels. Place a small rack within reach of the tub for bubble bath fanatics who will need towels for drying up splashes. To keep hanging towels off of the wall and free up space for shelving, mirrors or other wall hangings, consider placing a towel rack beneath the counter.

Hanging towels in layers will maximise the available hanging space in your bathroom while also providing an opportunity for a fun, decorative display. Alternate colours and designs to make your hanging towel display interesting. Place bath towels or bath sheets at the bottom level followed by hand towels and topped with washcloths. If you don't use hand towels and washcloths for showering, place a larger body towel on the bottom with a smaller towel for drying hair on top.

Many homemakers fold towels in half twice, then stuff the bundle onto the towel rack. Take a hint from the efficient towel-folding practices used by hotels for a more tidy and attractive way of folding hanging towels. Never fold hanging towels in half width-wise; this makes them too short to hang comfortably. Begin by folding the towels in thirds lengthwise. Finish by tucking the towel over the rack and adjusting so that the middle of the towel sits over the towel bar. Use this process with body and hand towels. For washcloths, fold the right and left corners in to form a neat point at the top and bottom of the cloth.
