With all the programs and special functions organised by universities every year, it's no wonder that fundraising efforts are often needed to supply an extra stream of cash. Holding a fundraiser is a group effort that requires hard work on the part of faculty members, staff and student volunteers. The more people involved in a fundraiser, the more likely it is to succeed. There are several different types of university fundraising ideas that can help generate some much-needed cash.

Catalogue Fundraiser

For this type of fundraiser, a university pairs up with a fundraising company that offers products in a brochure or catalogue format. Student volunteers go door-to-door, for a predetermined number of weeks, offering the products in the brochure for sale to other students or even strangers. For each order, the student must fill out an order form for the buyer. Once the fundraising efforts cease, the head of the fundraiser collects all of the order forms from participating students. The orders are then mailed to the company, which will fill all of the orders and send them back to the head of the fundraising campaign. Students distribute the orders to all of the buyers. The money can either be collected at the time of sale or when the order is delivered.

Event Fundraiser

Holding a special on-campus event is one of the easiest ways to raise funds. A pie-eating competition, car wash, dance competition or fancy dinner are all events that can generate money, whether it is through entry fees or ticket charges. The head of fundraising for the university can brainstorm with student volunteers to come up with an idea that will best suit the needs of the student body. Student volunteers will be enlisted to promote the event, sell tickets and be on hand to offer help during it. The fundraising head will be in charge of supplying a venue and other materials relevant to the theme while also keeping a check on expenditures to ensure a large profit.

Internet Fundraiser

Fundraising efforts on the Internet are the most economical way for universities to acquire cash at a minimal cost. In an Internet fundraiser, the university joins forces with an online shopping website. A special button bearing a coded link specific to the university is placed on the university's website. Students can click on the link and be transported to the shopping website. The university will get a percentage of all the sales directed from its website. Incentives, including special offers or discounts exclusive to students only, may further encourage students to buy from the shopping website. With this type of fundraiser, there is no need to specify an immediate time frame for when the campaign ends, as it can run for an entire year.
