Salicylic acid is most popularly known as being an agent in over-the-counter acne treatments. However, it appears naturally in many fruits, vegetables, nuts, and spices. Experts at the website Food Info. say that salicylic acid is colourless and considered a crystalline organic acid. It is soluble in alcohol, but not so much in water. Although foods may naturally contain this acid, when put into facial or beauty products, it can be harmful to ingest.
