Foods that promote estrogen production

Women rely heavily on oestrogen, a hormone that is responsible for many natural processes in a woman's body. According to, an estimated 50 per cent of women who are over 35 years of age experience certain forms of hormonal imbalance, either because of oestrogen overload or the lack of it. For this reason, more women are getting proactive in learning more about this hormone. Certain foods have been proven by health nutritionists and doctors to boost oestrogen levels in a woman's body.

Isoflavone-Rich Foods

Before oestrogen-increasing medicines were introduced, women used the power of diet to fix the hormonal problem. Eating more isoflavone-rich foods, such as beans, is very effective in increasing oestrogen levels in the body. Legumes are also considered to be rich in isoflavones. Some other well-known foods under this category are soy-based foods, such as soy milk and soy meat.

Boron-Rich Foods

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, eating foods that are rich in the mineral boron can also enhance oestrogen production in women. Boron-rich foods include apples, pears, raisins, grapes, nuts, almonds and honey. Eating these foods daily can potentially be a substitute for oestrogen replacement therapy.

Phytoestrogen-Rich Foods

Garlic, onions and blueberries are known to contain many phytoestrogen compounds. The Lepidium meyenii, a revered medicinal plant from the Andes and Peru, is popularly known to boost and enhance oestrogen productivity in women. It can be taken as a dietary supplement.
