The Classic Car Club of America defines classic cars as those built in limited production between 1919 and 1948 and representing the "pinnacle of engineering, styling, and design for their era." Irish law doesn't look at the year a car was manufactured when deciding if it's a "Classic." Instead, a car is considered to be a "Classic" when the first registration date is more than 30 years ago.

The Terenure Car Show is the largest classic car show in Ireland. The show is organised by Irish Jaguar and Daimler Club Ltd. and is held at Terenure College in Dublin. Proceeds from this event are donated to the club's chosen charity for that year. In 2010, funds were raised for ARC Cancer Support and St. Francis Hospice, Raheny. Vehicles eligible to compete in this show are Veteran, Vintage, and Classic Cars, Motorbikes, Invited Commercial and Military Vehicles, Kit and Custom Cars, Sports and Super Cars. Trim Vintage and Veteran Rally started out in 1985 with just 23 cars. It's grown each year and, in 2010, had more than 450 cars and motorcycles on show. In addition to the rally, there are a number of sideshows. Shows held in 2010 included a fun fair, a hot-air balloon, a car-boot sale, a dog show, food stalls, and line dancing. The entry fee is €10. Numerous prizes are awarded, including the Norman Pratt Memorial Shield, a solid silver prize made in the shape of the 14th century yellow steeple in Trim. The shield is placed on a solid mahogany background and was designed by Norman Pratt, the founding member of the car rally. This rally raises funds for local charities.
The first Gordon Bennett Race was run in July 1903 and it wasn't run again until 1974. That was when Frank Cassidy, president of The Irish Veteran and Vintage Car Club (IVVCC), and the board of the club, decided that the rally would be run by the club as an annual event, using as much of the 1903 course as possible. The main sponsor for this rally is Motor Distributors Ltd, the Mercedes distributor in Ireland. Entrants come from the Continent, America, and Australia. The rally starts from rally headquarters with difficult routes for each class of cars. All cars meet in a small town or village for lunch, then return to their routes. The rally ends at rally headquarters with dinner and prizes. Cars must be built before 1931 in order to be eligible for this rally. There are classes for antique, veteran, and vintage cars. A bronze replica of the original Gordon Bennett Trophy is presented to the winner each year. However, the winner is only allowed to keep the trophy during the presentation due to its value.
