Windows XP professional SP3 system requirements

Updated February 21, 2017

Service Pack 3( SP3), an update for the Windows XP Professional operating system, contains security, Internet browser enhancements and repairs to the previous Service Pack issued by Microsoft, Service Pack 2. The update is available for downloading and installing but your computer must meet certain system requirements before the update will function properly. If your system doesn't meet the requirements, SP3 will prompt you with a warning and may halt the installation process.

Previous Service Pack Installation

SP3 requires your Windows XP Professional system to have Service Pack 2 already installed before downloading SP3. If your system doesn't contain Service Pack 2, click the “How To Obtain The Latest Windows XP Service Pack” link in the Resources section to download and install the update.

Processor and Memory

Your Windows XP Professional system needs a 233 megahertz (MHz) or higher processor and 64 megabytes (MB) of Random Access Memory (RAM).

Hard Drive Space Requirement

SP3 requires 900 MB of free hard drive space to complete the installation process.

Operating System and Additional Requirements

Your system must be running Windows XP Professional and not Windows XP Professional x64.

If installing SP3 from a CD and not by downloading it directly from Microsoft, your system needs a CD-ROM drive.
