New York City is one of the top tourist destinations in the world. Most people already have an idea of the many activities that can be undertaken on a trip to New York -- from visiting the Empire State Building to watching a Broadway play to shopping at popular stores such as FAO Schwartz and Macy's department store. But there are other lesser known activities to do in New York that some people may consider a little crazy or unconventional.

Greenwich Village Halloween Parade

If you're in New York at the end of October, you might want to participate in the Greenwich Village Halloween Parade. The parade organisers bill the event as the world's largest Halloween parade and celebration. Started in 1973, the Village Halloween Parade now draws as many as 50,000 people each year who dress up in costumes and march through the Greenwich Village area of New York. About a million spectators watch the parade each year, and there are numerous corporate sponsors for the event. A website dedicated to the parade and its organisers can be found at:>
