School Parent Teacher Associations (PTA) are constantly on the lookout for new ideas to raise money. Fundraisers are what fund various school projects and activities, and keep the PTA going. Hence, it can be hard work to come up with new initiatives and ideas to keep fundraising activities a fun process and also raise the much-needed money. Not all events are time-consuming or expensive to organise, and with a bit of imagination and creativity, you can come up with new twists on old themes.

Games Night

Hold a games night to raise funds. An event such as this would involve both parents and their children and you could hold it on a weekend to encourage maximum participation. To make it interesting, you could decide on a theme for the night, such as retro board games or video games, and arrange people into teams to compete against each other. Award prizes for the highest scores of the night. To help raise your funds a bit more, charge for the tickets to get in and offer a break with refreshments halfway through, such as a Ploughman’s Supper, chilli or fish and chips.

Delicious Desserts Event

Hold a fundraising event focusing on delicious desserts and puddings. Activities at such an event would include both, tasting them, as well as learning about them through a quiz. Get everyone involved in the PTA, and any other help you can rustle up, to make a collection of different desserts, ensuring you make several of each. Create a quiz focusing on desserts, with questions covering topics such as guess the dessert, unusual ingredients, the origins of desserts and puddings from around the world. In the middle of the quiz, or even between each round, take a break to have a taste sampling of a small dessert. Sell tickets to the event in advance, so you know how many desserts to make.

Themed Auction

Consider holding a themed auction, where all the lots are focused on a particular theme. The focus could be on family goods, local items or articles of green (eco) interest. Contact local businesses and organisations for donations, or seek them from parents or other local community members. Auctions as a whole have been popular for a while, but creating a specific theme for your auction can help it stand out in the crowd.
