Farewell Office Party Themes

Updated November 21, 2016

A farewell party for a co-worker can be a bittersweet event. While it's often hard to say goodbye, make the occasion a time to celebrate past achievements and new opportunities. Gather friends and coworkers together on-site, decorate the meeting room with a farewell theme, and create hors d'oeuvres and a cake to celebrate the special person.

End Work Zone Party

Adorn the business meeting room with handmade or purchased replicas of "End Work Zone" signs and instruct a baker to decorate the farewell cake in a construction-type theme. Plan the party for the end of the work day, and create a construction hazard cone hat in orange for the guest of honour. Fill the party with toasts and stories of accomplishment during her stay with the company, all centred on the "End Work Zone" theme.

Personal Interests

Choose a theme based on a special interest or pastime of the guest of honour. Perhaps the honoree enjoys playing poker, entertaining guests at his home with a barbecue or a travelling to Hawaii. Plan a casino party, picnic barbecue or a luau, and encourage all guests to dress for the theme.

This is Your Life

Shine a spotlight on the honoree'' successful projects through a slide show, a visual display or co-worker and boss speeches. Play a game of "This is Your Life." Ask a close co-worker or friend to hide behind a curtain or in an adjacent room. Read messages from the mystery person about the guest of honour, and ask the honoree to guess who the identity. After the mystery guest is revealed, encourage a short speech about the friendship.

Red Carpet Party

Instruct those invited to the farewell party to dress in black-tie attire for the award-winning party. Lay a long red carpet runner leading into the party room, where a photographer will take photos of the guests for the honoree to take with him. Extend a special creative award to the guest of honour and ask him to conduct a short acceptance speech to address the party guests.
