A variety of materials can be used to make handbag holders (also referred to as handbag hooks). Handbag holders or hooks are used to hang either single or multiple handbags on the side of a table or in a closet. The most ubiquitous style of handbag holder is the portable hook created to hold one bag at a time. These single-handbag holders generally hang from the side of a bar table or dinner table and can easily fit inside a bag for convenient portability. Most single hook handbag holders are made with metal, brass, steel or alloy or some combination of these materials.

Metal / Steel / Brass / Alloy

Metal, brass, steel or alloy provide a sturdy framework to which embellishments may be added. For holders that are either screwed in or clamped on to the side of a table or bar, metals and steel ensure that the holder will not break off under the weight of the handbag. For single-hook, portable handbag holders, most styles feature a circular base with a long hook. Some designs allow the hook to fold around the circular base for compact storage.

Practical Embellishments and Hardware

Depending on how you construct the handbag holder, you may need some ancillary materials such as metal screws, clips, key chains, rubber or felt. Crtain styles of handbag holders fold up into a small circle. These circular styles require metal screws so that the metal parts may expand and contract. Clips and key chains are sometimes added for easy access and storage purposes. Rubber or a similar material can be added to the base to prevent the holder from slipping while positioned on a table. In addition, felt is sometimes used to protect the tabletop from potential scratches.

Decorative Embellishments

A wealth of items can be used as decorative embellishments on single bag handbag holders. The most common include crystals, gemstones, fabric and tinted plastic or Lucite. Other materials such as paint, gold leaf, beads, sequins, yarn, string or glass could also be used.

Multibag Handbag Holders

Multibag handbag holders can be composed of wood, metal, steel, alloy, fabric or plastic. Most multibag holders are designed to hang in a closet or other storage area and feature multiple hooks for multiple bags. A few styles have small cubicles in which to store handbags, and these styles are made to rest directly on the floor (either in a walk-in closet or other storage room). The multibag holder is more functional than trendy (as opposed to the decorative single-bag holders) and therefore has a more utilitarian aesthetic. Decorative embellishments are not typically used in the construction of multibag holders.
