Birthday, graduation and baby shower celebrations need the right decorations to set the atmosphere. If you want to decorate the area with a fake ice cream cone centrepiece, you have several options. Fake ice cream is much cleaner, easier to put away and there is no melted puddle at the end of the day.

Flower Cones

You can use fresh or artificial flowers to make an ice cream cone centrepiece. You will need some glass ice cream sundae dishes. Fill each glass almost to the top with brown glass beads or marbles. Cut your flower stems so the flower blossoms fit just above the top of the glass. The flowers should make a rounded shape of an ice cream scoop. Different colours of carnations work well for this. Place a round platform or box in the middle of the table and place a tablecloth over the whole table or just the centrepiece platform. Arrange the "ice cream cones" in a circular pattern in the middle of your table with some cones on the platform.

Cupcake Cones

Instead of ice cream that can melt at room temperature, you can use small to medium cupcakes instead. Find an ice cream cone stand or cupcake tier that you like. These are found at craft stores, party stores and online and come in different shapes and sizes. Buy some medium or large waffle or sugar ice cream cones. Bake or purchase some cupcakes. Place the decorated cupcakes on top of the cones so it looks like ice cream, or find a recipe that has you bake the cupcakes in the cones. Spread the frosting over the edges of the cupcake onto the cone to even out the look. Place each cone in the cone holder or evenly around the tier. Place the holder or tier on your table or wherever you want to display it. Add various party decorations around the holder that match the theme of your party, or intersperse curled ribbon in and around the cupcake cones.

Ice Cream Cone Candles

Candles in the shape of ice cream cones can double as decorations as well as birthday candles. You can find these online or make your own. Pour melted wax into a rubber ice cream cone shaped candle mould (don't forget the wick). Once cooled, the exterior can be painted any design you want. To seal the paint, hold the candle by the wick and briefly dip it into melted wax. Let the wax cool and set. Use a cupcake tier to display your candles. If you plan on lighting the candles, make sure they are properly and securely placed on the outer ledge of the tier with nothing directly positioned above the candles.

Cone Cutouts

Paper cone cutouts work well for a centrepiece. You can order these online, buy them from a party store or make your own. The main components, regardless of where you get them, should be an ice cream cone shape, a scoop of ice cream and a dowel or stick to arrange them. The cone cutout can be decorated with glitter or coloured sand for added texture and colour. Attach the cone cut out to the ice cream scoop cut out, then attach the bottom of the cone to the top of the dowel. Grab a large punchbowl and fill it with glass beads of any colour or florist sponge and some spiral ribbon curls for decoration. Make extra ribbon curls to place around the punchbowl. Poke the dowels or sticks into the bowl and evenly arrange them so the paper ice cream cones point in every direction.
