Problem-solution essay topics should be relevant and suited to your interests (BananaStock/BananaStock/Getty Images)

Not all essays have to be informative or argumentative. Write an essay that states a clear problem and workable solutions to this problem. When choosing a topic for a problem-solution essay, select a topic which interests you the most and that is also relevant to the reader of the essay. Get inspiration from conversations you have had with friends and relatives, and find good topics from reading your local newspaper.

Services for Immigrant Communities

Write about the lack of quality community resources for immigrant populations in your city and what can be done about it. Suggest that the city's social services department create more services to help the immigrants with communication barriers, such as translators and interpreters so the immigrants can handle their business affairs more effectively. Also suggest that local business organisations reach out to immigrant business owners through seminars and increases in funding opportunities for them.

Teens and Crime

Another idea is to write an essay about ways in which the city's residents and community leaders can help keep teens from entering lives of crime. A good solution to this problem is to increase the opportunities for after-school and summer employment for teens, which not only provides them with a constructive activity, but also teaches them money management skills. Or, suggest that parents become more emotionally and spiritually involved in the teens' lives.

Acquisition of Job Skills for Those Not Interested in College

While many politicians and educators focus heavily on the benefits of a four-year college education, the promotion of this ideal is sometimes unrealistic because not everyone attends college for career advancement. Write an essay about how to help those who are not in college obtain necessary skills for the workforce. One good solution is for business owners to create more apprenticeships for teens so they may get a head start in building work experience.

Negative Images of Minorities

Another idea is to write about the effects of the stereotyping of minorities on TV and what solutions could work for this problem. Suggest that minorities who work in the media consider starting their own networks and producing quality programming which shows realistic, positive images of minorities to audiences.
