Photo-editing is no longer just for professionals. Anyone with a computer can gain access to a variety of tools and edit and tweak photos for amusing results. No matter if you're looking to completely distort a picture, combine multiple photos into one or make subtle changes, there are many effects at your disposal and many ways to access those effects.

Morphing Effects

Some effects are designed to combine one picture with another to create one humorous picture. This effect can be used to combine things such as a picture of a person and a picture of a cat and morphing them into one "cat person". Another type of morphing effect is to put one person's head on another person's body. Morphing can also be used to affect specific parts of a picture such as switching hairstyles or altering body parts.

Distortion Effects

Other effects can be used to affect the entire picture. A picture can be stretched to create the look of a funhouse mirror or look like the subject is underwater by adding swirls and ripples. Photos can also be made to look more humorous through the use of a fish-eyed lens effect for an extreme close-up of one part of them. A photo can also be altered to look like a cartoon or colouring book page as well.

Framing/Context Effects

The way a picture is framed can change the context of the picture and make a normal photo instantly more amusing. A framing effect can be added to the portrait of a person to make the subject's face appear to be somewhere unusual or inherently funny. Some examples of common framing and background effects include fake magazine covers, TV screens, billboards, paintings on a wall, wanted posters, currency and yearbook pictures. These backgrounds usually include customisable text that can make the photo funnier in context.

Effects Websites and Software

Some humorous photo effects are available as part of the traditional photo-editing software that comes with computers and digital cameras. They're also available as part of photo effects programs that can be downloaded as freeware and shareware. Online sites dedicated to photo effects are a helpful and usually free resource for photo-editing., and are some of the many sites which offer free uploading and editing of pictures.
