Many jobs require employees to stand all day. Some types of jobs have worse effects than others. Gym teachers are one example of a job where standing all day may not have as many side effects as some of the other jobs do. This is because a gym teacher is moving around throughout the day and not staying in one position for the entire day. The problem generally with these jobs is that these employees are in one position for an entire shift. Because there is virtually no movement, and they are standing, negative side effects can occur.

Pain in the heels is the most common pain people experience. The heel bones react to repeated stress or weight-bearing, especially in people standing on hard surfaces such as concrete. This causes inflammation on the ligament on the bottom of the foot. Bone spurs can often develop after years of pain. This condition often leads to plantar fasciitis. Standing also leads to reduced blood flow, which causes pain in the muscles and joints. When blood flow is decreased, the blood stagnates and can cause varicose veins.
For people with jobs that require standing all day, there are several precautions that can help with these problems. If a job requires a stationary position all day, try using a chair if it will fit in the area given. Changing work positions can help too by offering different stances. People in these jobs should avoid any extreme bending, stretching or twisting that can cause pain in the legs and back. Other ways to help are by placing insoles in shoes or using an ani-fatigue mat. Both of these options reduce the pressure that gravity places on the body especially when standing on hard surfaces all day. This helps keep blood flowing, therefore causing less pain in the body.
