The last thing a blue-eyed girl would want to do is take focus away from her eyes. If you want make-up that features your blue eyes, rather than drowning them out, choose shades that work with your eye colour and skin tone. Have fun as you experiment and figure out what works best for you. Just as blue eyes vary greatly -- they can have a hint of green or yellow in them, for example -- the colours that will make your eyes pop will also vary.

Instructions

  1. 1

Apply eyeshadow that emphasises your blue eyes. Generally, it's best to pick colours that contrast with your eye colour. Shades like grey, brown, taupe, silver, copper, pink and violet are usually recommended. In the past, make-up artists suggested that using blue colours would take away from the blueness of blue eyes. Some recommend using blue shadow that is lighter than your eye colour; others recommend using only deep blues. If you're set on using blue shades, try experimenting with what works for you.

  2. 2

Apply eyeliner that works with blue eyes. Neutral colours work best with blue eyes, such as black, brown and charcoal. If you're using a distinctive eyeshadow colour, stick with one of these colours, or match the eyeliner colour with the eyeshadow colour. For a unique look, try using the complementary colour of blue, which is orange. Apply the eyeliner to the base of your upper and lower eyelashes. For an evening look, apply eyeliner to the inner rim of the bottom of your eyes instead of the eyelash base.

  3. 3

Apply mascara to finish your eye make-up. When in doubt, use black, or try matching your mascara with your eyeliner. If you're using neutral eyeshadow tones, feel free to experiment with vibrant colours such as dark blue or green. Apply one to two coats of mascara. For volume and thicker lashes, apply more than one coat. Do not allow the first coat of mascara to dry before you apply the second coat.

Tips and warnings

  • Use an eyeshadow primer before you apply your eye make-up to make it last longer and go on more smoothly.
