How to Add a Page Border From a File in Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word provides a selection of clip art borders in its art choices. However, it does not allow you to add your own images directly to those options, nor to create custom borders from within the software. If you have a suitable image in a file, you can add it to your page as a border In Word 2010 by utilising features of the header area.

    Open your document and double-click in the header area to display the "Header & Footer Tools" tab.

    Click "Picture" on the "Insert" tab in the "Illustrations" group. Browse to the file you want to insert on your computer and double-click it to insert it.

    Click on "Text Wrapping" on the "Picture Tools" toolbar and select "Behind Text."

    Click and drag the sizing handles to resize the image to fit the document layout. In the "Arrange" group on the "Format" tab, click "Position" to align the picture precisely.

    Click "Close Header and Footer" on the "Header & Footer Tools" tab to return to your document.
