How to Enable Multicast & uPNP Technology on a Netgear Wndr3300 Router

Updated February 21, 2017

Multicast is the transmission of data or network information from a single source device to multiple destinations. One of the most common applications of multicast is streaming video. UPnP, or Universal Plug and Play, is a technology that allows routers to recognise and support connected network devices without any manual set-up. The Netgear WNDR3300 wireless router supports both multicast and UPnP, which can be set up in the router configuration menu.

Open your Web browser, such as Internet Explorer or Firefox, type "192.168.1.1" into the address bar, and then type your user name and password (the default is "admin" and "password") when prompted. The configuration menu will open up.

Enable multicast on your Netgear WNDR3300. Click on the "QoS Setup" link in the "Advanced" section of the navigation pane and deselect the check box for "Block multicast / broadcast MAC address." Click "Apply."

Enable UPnP on your Netgear WNDR3300. Click on the "UPnP" link in the "Advanced" section of the navigation pane and select the "Turn UPnP On" check box. Click "Apply."

Scroll to the very bottom of the navigation pane and click "Logout." Multicast and UPnP are now enabled on your Netgear WNDR3300 router.
