Designing graphics for ads, signs and other printed documents often involves using basic shapes like circles or stars. Adobe Illustrator has a wide array of tools and functions that make the job of creating these shapes much easier. The shape tools in the toolbar speed up the process of creating basic shapes like stars. However, there may be times when you want to adjust the basic star shape to make it look like a sparkle. The method for doing this is quick and easy.
- Skill level:
Start Illustrator. Select "File" from the menu followed by "Open." In the dialogue box that appears, locate and open the document you want to add sparkles to.
Go to the "Layers" panel, and then click on the "New Layer" button.
Go to the toolbar on the left and select the "Star" tool. On the canvas, click and drag with the mouse to place the star. Before you release the mouse button, tap the up arrow key on your keyboard to add more points to the star.
Add another star on top of the first one, this time changing the size and number of points.
Repeat steps 2-5 to add all the sparkles you want for your document.
Select "File" from the menu, and then choose "Save." In the dialogue, name the file and click "Save."
