How to hide & unhide a post on Facebook

Updated April 17, 2017

The Facebook social networking site provides an effective way to stay in touch with your friends and contacts. Facebook users post a range of content on the site, from newsy status updates to photos, videos and links to external content. Posts from your Facebook friends appear in the news feed on your home page. If you see a post that you don't like, you can remove the individual post or hide all the posts from that user with Facebook's "Hide" feature. If you later change your mind, you can't unhide an individual post, but you can unhide all the posts from an individual user by removing him from the hidden list.

Sign in to your Facebook account.

Roll your mouse pointer over the post on the home page news feed that you want to hide. This action displays an "X" icon to the right of the post.

Click the "X" icon when the "Remove" button displays beside it. Select "Hide this post" from the drop-down list to hide the post on your Facebook home page news feed. You can also select the "Hide all by [Username]" if you want to remove all posts from this user from your home page.

Sign in to your Facebook account.

Click the "Most Recent" button at the top of the home page news feed.

Click "Edit Options" from the bottom of the drop-down menu. This displays a list of all the friends and items that you've previously hidden.

Hover your mouse pointer over the user that you want to unhide. Click the "X" icon beside the user to remove the user from the hidden list and restore the user's posts on your Facebook home page news feed.

Click "Save."

You can also select "Mark as Spam" from the hide options to alert Facebook to a user who is posting inappropriate items to your news feed. You can unhide an individual post from your news feed immediately after hiding it by clicking "Undo" beside the hidden post notification. However, this option isn't available after you've navigated away from your home page.
