You can dress up your IMVU avatar profile home page with a background layout. These layouts, which look similar to MySpace and Twitter backgrounds, span the entire background of the profile, while allowing the key elements of your page, such as the "About Me," "Messages," "My Groups," "My Interests" and "My Buddies" areas, to stand out. You can find IMVU profile layouts on free websites, or you can plug colour options into a layout generator to make your own.

Instructions

  1. 1

Search for a pre-designed, IMVU-specific layout on the layout website of your choice. See Resources. Many websites categorise their layouts and include topics such as Anime, models, celebrities, cars, artistic designs and music.

  2. 2

Click on the layout you wish to use. Scroll down the page until you reach the "Get Code" or "Copy Code" section. Or, click on a link with the same text, if available. The code should start with the text, "<div style=" or "<style type." Look for instructions on where to paste the code in your profile.

  3. 3

Log into your IMVU profile. Navigate to "Profile Edit."

  4. 4

Paste the layout code into the area mentioned in the instructions. For example, many layouts instruct you to paste the code under the "EditV" or "Edit custom HTML/CSS" section for such pre-made layouts. Select "Save" to save your changes.

  1. 1

Select a layout generator website where you can specify colours and text styles for elements on your profile. See Resources.

  2. 2

Specify font styles, border colours, background colours and text sizes in the layout generator. Some generators offer "colour pickers" and check-boxes you can use to make selections and change colours.

  3. 3

Click "Generate" or "Generate Code." These types of generated codes often start with the "<style type" code text. Copy this code. Make a note of where the instructions say to paste the code.

  4. 4

Log into your IMVU profile. Navigate to the "Profile Edit" portion of your page.

  5. 5

Paste the code into the "About Me" or other specified section of the page. Select "Save" to save your changes.

Tips and warnings

  • The more options you select in a layout generator, the more customised you can make your layout.
