Pikachu is a furry, adorably cute character in the popular game Pokemon. He is one of the most popular Pokemon, owned by main character Ash Ketchum. While there are several hundreds of different Pokemon, Pikachu always seems to be Ash's right-hand man. Pikachu has the power to move at super speeds, conduct lightening storms, and can gain power from any electrical source. Origami is a great way to create your own army of Pikachus. Just make sure you have enough time and patience to make your very own Pokemon.

Skill level:

Things you need

  • Origami paper (any size)

  1. 1

Fold paper diagonally. Make sure the longest side is closest to you.

  2. 2

Fold the bottom left corner toward the bottom right corner. This will make an even smaller triangle.

  3. 3

Turn the triangle so that the opening is on the left side and the closed crease is on the right.

  4. 4

Lift the top flap up, making an "L" shape. Open or separate the top paper flap and press down into a squash fold. A squash fold literally means you squash the paper down as evenly as possible.

  5. 5

Turn the paper over and repeat for the other side. Both sides should now be squash folded, leaving a square shape.

  6. 6

Fold in the right corner to the centre. Repeat with the left corner. This is called an ice cream fold.

  7. 7

Fold the top corner down to the centre (the top of the ice cream fold). Unfold the last three folds.

  8. 8

Lift the bottom corner up and over the top point. Smash the paper down, making sure everything is as even as possible. This will take some time, but the end result will form a diamond figure on top.

  9. 9

Turn over and repeat Steps 6-8. You will now have a completed diamond-shaped origami piece.

  10. 10

Rotate the paper so the two longer triangles, which look like separate ears, are at the top. Fold one tip down and to the side, making it point out vertically (about halfway down). Repeat with the other tip. These are the ears.

  11. 11

Fold the bottom triangle all the way up so that it folds in between the two longer triangles. Wrap it around the top so that it now hangs on the opposite side.

  12. 12

Turn the model over. Fold the bottom triangle up just as in Step 10. This will make the tail.

  13. 13

Fold the top point down diagonally. The tip will point to the right.

  14. 14

Take the top tip of that fold and make another diagonal fold down. This will make a tiny rectangle on top of the bigger one made in Step 13.

  15. 15

Fold the bottom tip up to the centre, making the base a vertical crease. Turn over, and Pikachu is completed.

  16. 16

Colour in tips of the ears and tail. Add two eyes and a mouth to make Pikachu come alive.

Tips and warnings

  • Make sure all creases are made with force. It will be easier to fold if creases are firmly made. Also, make sure all edges line up with one another.
