Although Wi-Fi is widely available, it's not everywhere. The Pavilion DM4, a laptop computer sold by Hewlett-Packard, uses a subscriber identification module, or SIM card, that you can use to get online when Wi-Fi is not available. Inserting an active SIM card into the computer permits you to connect through the 3G cellular network. With access to both Wi-Fi and 3G possible on the Pavilion DM4 laptop, it's unlikely that you will ever have to worry about being unable to access the Internet.

Skill level:

  1. 1

Turn off the Pavilion DM4 laptop.

  2. 2

Disconnect all peripherals from the laptop. Unplug the computer if it is connected to a power outlet.

  3. 3

Turn the laptop face down on a flat surface.

  4. 4

Slide the battery release button toward the middle of the laptop and lift the battery out of the compartment.

  5. 5

Insert an activated SIM card into the SIM card slot, located on the right side of the battery compartment. Push the card in until it clicks in place.

  6. 6

Re-install the battery by aligning its back edge to the back of the battery enclosure and pushing the forward edge down until it clicks in place.
