You may notice that on the web or in print, several documents and postings contain characters that you do not have on your keyboard. Keyboards do not have the necessary room or organisation to include all of the symbols that are used for special projects and documents. The characters are created with simple key combinations, often called "Alt codes." You can create them using the keys that you do have on your keyboard.

Open the word processing program or website into which you want to type a triangle.
Press your "Num Lock" key on the right side of your keyboard. This will allow you to use the 10-key number pad instead of the numbers below the function keys.
Press and hold down the "Alt" key. This is located at the bottom left side of your keyboard.
Press the number three on the 10-key pad on the right side of the keyboard and then press the number zero for a right-side-up triangle or the number one for a right-side-down triangle. Let go of the "Alt" key.
