A wrist strap, also known as a lifting wrist strap, is a band used by professional and amateur bodybuilders. A wrist strap helps improve grip and supports weight distribution when performing various types of power lifting. Ultimately, a wrist strap enables you to focus more on your lifting than on your grip and it protects your arms, wrists and hands by distributing stress appropriately. Tying a wrist strap is a simple process.

Pass the end of each wrist strap through its looped end to create a "hoop," or circle.
Insert each hand through each hoop, ensuring that the looped ends on the wrist straps are facing away from each other.
Pull the strap tightly with a free hand to secure it around your wrist. The excess strap goes on the bottom of your wrist, where the palm of your hand is. Wrap the excess strap around the barbell in the region where you are going to grip the bar. After wrapping the barbell, roll the barbell to tighten the straps around it. Stop rolling the barbell when your wrists are firmly secured. When finished lifting, roll the barbell the opposite way to release the straps.
