How to tie stretch magic elastic bracelets

Stretch Magic, a stretchy, elastic bead stringing material, is an inexpensive and easy alternative to beading cord, cotton or silk thread and other stringing materials. Stretch Magic is particularly useful if you're making bracelets for young children who have difficulty opening and closing clasps, or if you're making bracelets for gifts or craft fairs where you may not know the exact wrist size. With a few basic knots and some glue, you can securely tie off your Stretch Magic bracelets.

Cut the beaded length of Stretch Magic from the spool, leaving a 3-inch tail.

Bring the end to your left over and then under the end on your right. Pull the two ends to secure a half knot. Bring the cord on the right over and under the cord on the left to form a second half knot. Pull tightly to complete a square knot.

Repeat step 2 a total of four times to make four tight square knots. Coat the knot in a thin layer of jewellery glue and let dry for five to ten minutes. Trim the excess cord, leaving about 1/4 inch to keep the knot secure.

Cut the beaded length of Stretch Magic from the spool, leaving 5 to 6 inches of extra length.

Bring the cord end on your left over and around the cord end on your right two times, as if you were making two half knots at once. Bring the right-hand end over and under the left-hand thread once. Pull the ends apart to tighten the knot.

Coat the knot with jewellery glue and allow to dry. Trim the excess cord, leaving 1/4 inch on either side.


Let the glue dry completely for 30 minutes to an hour before wearing your bracelet.


Small beads and jewellery parts are a choking hazard for young children.
