A tall headboard, or faux headboard, that reaches from floor to ceiling is an easy and inexpensive way to add some drama and style to your bedroom. These projects, which can be completed in a weekend, let your personal style shine without a big investment.

Mark off an area of the wall where you want your bed to be with painter's tape. it should be slightly wider than your bed and go from floor to ceiling.Use a level to help keep your lines of tape straight.

Paint the lightest colour you've chosen for your stripes between the tape strips. Let dry, then paint a second coat. Let dry again.

Mark off stripes from floor to ceiling using painter's tape. Paint between the tape stripes with the second colour of paint. Allow to dry, then paint a second coat. Let dry before removing all of the tape.

Center the head of your bed on the painted section of wall.

Cut a piece of cotton fabric that is slightly wider than your bed and long enough to reach from floor to ceiling. Cut the fabric neatly and avoid any fraying, as you will not be hemming it. If your bed is wider than your fabric, make one wide panel and two narrower ones. Sew the narrow panels on either side of the wider panel with a 1/8-inch seam.

Press the fabric, then lay it out flat, upside down on a tarp. Place fabric stiffener in a bowl and brush onto the fabric with a paint brush. Make sure the fabric stays very flat.

Allow the fabric to dry. Use packing tape to attach the fabric in place on the wall. Use a hot iron with no steam and press the fabric to the wall. The heat activates the stiffener, causing the fabric to adhere to the wall. Remove the tape.
