Losing weight around the hips and thighs poses a challenge for many people--men and women alike. Rather than treat the weight loss like work, turn it into something you enjoy. Diet and exercise, when done correctly, help you regain your natural shape. While costly plastic surgery brings the same results, following a fitness regime is a safer, more satisfactory way to get into shape.

Instructions

  1. 1

Stop eating high-calorie, unhealthy food by switching out items. For example, instead of drinking a sugar-filled mochachino, change to coffee with milk. Swap out water for soda pop. Bring fruits and vegetables as snacks instead of chips and candy. You can also swap fruit for sugar. A juicy, sweet orange satisfies a sweet tooth just as well as a chocolate bar. In addition to cutting out high-calorie foods, change the ways you prepare food. Instead of sautéing vegetables in butter, steam them. Instead of making a potato with cheese and sour cream, sprinkle onion powder and pour extra virgin olive oil over it. Making simple diet changes cut calories.

Exercise at least five times a week. Stomach crunches, lunges, walking, yoga and Pilates all help tone hips and thighs. Aerobic exercise, like running, helps the body burn fat and aid weight loss.

Change daily habits. Sitting or standing in one spot for hours keeps the body stationary. Walk whenever possible, whether that means walking to the store or simply walking across the room rather than sliding your chair. In the workplace, use part of your breaks to walk. Not only will it help you exercise, but also it can help you refocus your energy for the rest of the day.

Enlist the help of a friend. Exercising and dieting with another person helps both of you stay on track. Check in with each other. Schedule workouts together. Find someone who has a similar fitness goal as you. If you are both working to tone your hips and thighs, the activities you can do together are the same.

Set small goals for yourself. Achieving small, short-term goals makes it easier to work towards the larger goal. For example, if you currently drink a lot of sugary beverages, gradually wean yourself to one soda pop a day after two weeks. You can also set weight loss goals, but don't go over two pounds a week. Reward yourself when you accomplish a goal with something small like going to the movies or buying a new book or piece of clothing. Keep the small prizes under a £6 value.

Tips and warnings

  • Give yourself a large reward once you reach your goal, like a short trip or an expensive item.
