Any woman can save a few dollars on her personal upkeep by dyeing her hair in her own bathroom. Unfortunately, mistakes do happen and sometimes the colour on the dye box does not look like the colour on your head. The hair dye can be removed, or stripped, from the hair at a salon, but this is an expensive and time-consuming process. A homemade solution for removing hair dye can safely be used anytime after the unwanted colour is discovered.

Cover your entire head of hair with a large amount of anti-residue shampoo.

Wrap your head with plastic cling wrap and allow it to remain covered for eight to 12 hours, or overnight. The shampoo will begin to open the pores and remove the dye from the follicles.

Rinse the shampoo from your hair with warm water.

Pour three to four cups of olive oil into a medium-sized saucepan. Heat the oil until it boils and remove it from the heat.

Cool the hot olive oil until it can comfortably be touched and then place a generous amount of the oil onto your hair.

Allow the oil to sit on your hair for two to three hours, then rinse it away with warm water.

Repeat the process until the unwanted hair dye is completely removed.
