How to make chianti wine bottle candles

Updated February 21, 2017

If you are planning a romantic dinner for your significant other, you can add ambience to the room by setting out Chianti wine bottle candles---a full-bottomed wine bottle with a tapered candle dripping wax down the bottle's sides. Instead of buying a premade wine bottle candle from a home decorating store, you can make your own Chianti candle by following a few directions to ensure that a standard tapered candle will adhere properly inside the opening of the bottle.

Rinse out the inside of the Chianti wine bottle and place it on a tabletop or other flat work surface. Allow the inside of the bottle to dry.

Hold a flame from a lighter or match over the bottom of a 1-inch-wide taper candle until the wax softens and melts slightly.

Insert the melted end of the candle into the Chianti bottle.

Twist the candle slightly to push it more deeply into the bottle.

Light the wick of the candle and let it burn until wax drips down the sides of the Chianti bottle. Carefully blow out the candle.

Things You'll Need

  • Chianti wine bottle
  • Beeswax taper candles, 1 inch wide
  • Lighter or long match
