How to Remove Diesel Smell From Tennis Shoes

Updated February 21, 2017

If you have ever spilt diesel fuel on your tennis shoes accidentally, you may have been left with a lingering unpleasant odour. Diesel fuels are quite strong, and the oily nature of the fuel causes odours to cling to substances. Luckily, you can clean and deodorise tennis shoes that have been in contact with diesel fuel. You also can save yourself some money by treating this problem with inexpensive household cleaning products.

Place your tennis shoes in a washing machine and pour enough white vinegar into the washer to cover the shoes.

Allow the shoes to soak for one hour.

Add washing powder to the washer and fill it the rest of the way with water. Wash the tennis shoes on the gentle cycle.

Place your tennis shoes in a well-ventilated area to air dry after the laundry cycle is complete.
