How to Program a VW Passat Fob

The Volkswagen Passat is a family-sized sedan. The Passat offers a keyless entry package that includes a programmed key fob that will lock and unlock your doors. The keyless entry works without requiring your key to be inserted into the door. You may purchase additional remotes and program them to your Passat if you would like to have a spare. Programming your Passat's key fob will only take a few minutes.

Insert the first of your Passat's keys into the ignition and turn it one click. Do not start the engine.

Leave the first key in the ignition and exit the vehicle.

Close all of the doors and remain outside of your Passat.

Insert the second of your Passat's keys into the driver's side door lock and lock the vehicle by turning the key toward the back of the vehicle.

Leave the second key in the door lock.

Push down one time on the "Unlock" button on your key fob remote. If you have an older Passat key fob, it may say "Open" instead of "Unlock." Your Passat's horn will honk a single time.

Remove your keys from the door lock and the ignition.


Programming a new remote may deactivate your programmed remotes. You may need to reprogram your current remotes as well.
