Microsoft Money database files organise financial information, allowing you easy storage and access through the program. If a Microsoft Money file becomes corrupted, the program may not be able to open the database. Fortunately, Microsoft Money includes a repair tool that can solve this problem. The tool can perform two different levels of repair, depending on the degree to which the file is corrupted. After repair, Microsoft Money will be able to open the file.

Skill level:

    Quick Repair

  1. 1

Perform a Quick repair on the file. Click the Start button, then type "msmoney.exe -s" (without quotes) into the Search box, followed by the directory path and name of the corrupted file.

  2. 2

Press "Enter" to run a Quick repair on the file. Enter the password for the file if it's password-protected.

  3. 3

Open the repaired file with Microsoft Money.

    Standard Repair

  1. 1

Fix the file with Microsoft Money's Standard repair tool if the Quick repair doesn't work. Start Money, click on "File" and choose "Repair Money File." Click on "Standard File Repair."

  2. 2

Click on the data file that you want to repair, then click "Open." Click "Browse," then choose a location and a new file name for the repaired file.

  3. 3

Click "Begin Repair" to repair the file. Click "OK" when the repair is finished, then open the newly-repaired file in Microsoft Money.

Tips and warnings

  • Microsoft recommends running the Quick repair again after you run the Standard repair on a file.
