How to Override the Anti Theft System in a Ford Taurus

Updated February 21, 2017

Some models of the Ford Taurus are equipped with an antitheft system that uses sensors in the ignition system to determine if unauthorised access is being attempted. The system will be triggered if someone tries to start the car with something other than the coded ignition key. Once the antitheft system is triggered, the engine is immobilised and the Taurus will not be drivable until the system is overridden.

Insert the key into the driver's side door lock.

Turn the key to the left to unlock the door.

Insert the key into the ignition within 12 seconds of unlocking the door.

Start the engine. The antitheft system is overridden.
