How to Make Free ID Badges

Updated November 21, 2016

Printed photo badges for identification make a conference or other gathering more friendly, as attendees can easily identify each other, and more secure, as those who should not be there can be identified by their lack of ID badge. Other uses for ID badges include checking in children to a church nursery or gym day care, identifying visitors to a school or business, or identifying employees by job description. Free software and online ID generators make producing your own ID badges simple.

Download and install a free ID badge template or software program. Alternatively, you can use the Big Huge Labs website to generate an ID badge on the website.

Open Microsoft Word, if using a template, and choose the template you just downloaded. Otherwise open the software program you downloaded.

Input the photo you wish to use in the appropriate spot. Enter any desired text, as well.

Generate your ID badge. If using a template or software, choose print. If using Big Huge Labs' Badge Maker, click create and then print the badge generated.

Laminate the badge using either a machine or laminating paper. Cut out the badge.
