Smileys or emoticons are used to express your current emotional state when communicating online or browsing the Internet. The emoticons now appear in e-mails, text messages, websites and forums. Initially they were displayed as a simple smiley face, but today you can download animated smiley images from websites that provide different smiley images. The smiley image is more commonplace with online users and the younger generation who uses text as a major source of communication.
