Homemade Denture Paste
Use natural denture adhesive to avoid using products with zinc. (acetal denture image by Mirek Hejnicki from Fotolia.com)

Most over-the-counter denture adhesives use some form of zinc as an ingredient, which can cause side effects. So instead, you can make your own denture adhesive with peanut butter or bubblegum, a more natural type of adhesive than those available on the market. Although this type of denture adhesive works, it does not work as well as those sold over the counter and only gives you a four- to five-hour adhesion.

Instructions

  1. 1

Clean the denture as you normally do.

  2. 2

Dip a wooden dowel or stick in a jar of peanut butter, and place a dab on the front part of an upper denture. Make the dab about the size of a pencil eraser.

  3. 3

Add a dab to each side of the upper denture near the molars. Make the amount about the size of a large pencil eraser.

  4. 4

Spread the peanut butter over the upper side of the denture. Insert it in place.

  5. 5

Add a dollop of peanut butter to the front centre of the bottom denture where the gum curve begins. Do the same on both sides, and spread the peanut butter within the bottom denture's gum canal. Insert the denture as you normally do.

  1. 1

Unwrap four to five pieces of bubblegum, and place them in a microwave-safe bowl.

  2. 2

Microwave for a minute, and remove the bubblegum from the microwave. Mix it well with a wooden stick or the end of a wooden spoon

  3. 3

Pour a half-cup of sugar on a piece of waxed paper. Make a well in the sugar with your fingers, and pour the bubblegum in the well.

  4. 4

Cover the gum in sugar, and roll it around until it takes on a rubbery texture.

  5. 5

Pull off a piece, and roll it into a ball the size of a marble. Wipe the inside of the denture with a damp paper towel.

  6. 6

Press the bubblegum ball in the centre of the denture, and spread it toward each side of the denture. Pull off another piece if necessary, and place it toward the back of the denture. Spread it toward each side, pressing the edges in the gum canal.

  7. 7

Insert the denture, and fit it in place as you normally do. Bite down to fit the denture to the gums.
