"Rise of Nations Gold Edition" is a real-time strategy PC game from Microsoft Game Studios. Players can build a civilisation that spans 6,000 years of history starting in the ancient age ending in the technology age. There are certain game limits, such as maximum population capacity at each stage that keeps the player from developing too quickly. You can override these limits by "hacking" your game and changing the population numbers in the game folders on your computer.

Open "My Computer" from your computer's "Start" menu. Open the "C" drive. Choose program files and click on the Microsoft games directory folder.
Open the "Rise of Nations" folder, and open the data folder inside that folder. Scroll down to the file "rules.xml," and right-click it. Scroll down and select "open in Notepad."
Press "Ctrl+F" in Notepad to open a search window. Type "poplimits" into the search window. Edit the population categories that are displayed by changing the listed population limits within the quotation marks to your desired capacity, for example, the adjusted code for the starting level would read: <POP_CAP entry 0="2500."
