Instead of purchasing expensive protein bars, make your own at home. Use peanut butter as the principle source of protein. By making your own protein bars, you can customise them to your tastes. For example, if you like raisins, add them to the bars. Dried fruit adds some sweetness to the bars, and balances out the oats. The fruit flavour also blends with the nuts. You can make more bars by doubling or tripling the recipe.
Measure 2 cups of peanut butter and 2 cups of oats into a bowl.
Add 1/3 cup of dried fruit and nuts.
Mix together with a spoon or mixer until smooth.
Line a pan with waxed paper. Pour the mixture onto the pan. Spread it with a rubber spatula to coat the whole pan.
Place another sheet of waxed paper over the mixture. Move the rolling pin over it the top sheet of waxed paper to flatten the mixture.
Place in the freezer for 1-2 hours.
Remove frozen pan. Remove the top sheet of waxed paper and cut the mixture into bars.
