How to pinpoint the location of a cell phone

Updated February 21, 2017

Maybe you need to keep track of where your teenagers are going on a Saturday night, or perhaps you misplace your cell phone from time to time. Whatever the case, you can easily use a GPS software to pinpoint the location of a cell phone. All that you need is a web-enabled mobile phone free piece of software and a computer or other device with access to the Internet.

Find a GPS tracking program. A few that you can consider using are BuddyWay, Mologogo and Instamapper (see Resources). With cell phone tracking software, you will be know where the cell phone is simply by logging on to a website and locating it on a map.

Register for the program by providing your e-mail address, user name and cell phone number. Check your text message for the download link with the phone tracking software. Open up your web browser and download the application to your mobile phone. Agree to the terms and conditions, and follow the on-screen instructions. Once installation is complete, restart your phone.

Go to the "Main Menu" on your phone and go to the "Applications." Find the program that you installed and open it up. This will begin transmitting the location of the phone to the application's servers.

Turn your computer on and open up your browser. Go to the site where you registered and log in. You will see your ID with a red dot next to it. This is the cell phone. You will be given its longitude and latitude and its position on the map. You can now find the general location of the cell phone to within about 50 feet.
