How to Hook My Dell Optiplex 330 to My HDMI Sony TV

Updated February 21, 2017

The Dell Optiplex 330 is the company's entry-level desktop computer, with a VGA (video graphics array) port for connecting an external monitor or TV as well as a line out jack for transmitting audio through a 3.5mm stereo cable. You can connect the Optiplex to an HDMI Sony TV, but you won't be using the HDMI port. Instead, Sony's high-definition TVs are also equipped with a D-sub jack, which accommodates the VGA cable for the Dell Optiplex. The Optiplex does not have an HDMI port. Sony sets also offer a 3.5mm audio input for hooking up PC sound.

Shut down the Optiplex and turn off the Sony.

Connect the VGA cable from the monitor port on the back of the Optiplex tower to the jack labelled "D-sub" on the back panel of the Sony TV.

Hook up the stereo cable from the "Line Out" jack on the back of the Optiplex to the "Stereo Mini" jack on the back of the Sony.
