How to Measure Your Feet in UK Size
Determine your UK shoe size to buy the perfect pair of shoes. (foot image by Mat Hayward from Fotolia.com)

The United Kingdom uses a different standard of measurement for shoe sizes than the United States does. If you visit England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland and ask for a pair of size 9 shoes, you are more likely to find yourself stumbling around in shoes that are too large - especially if you are a woman, for whom the size difference is more dramatic. Instead of suffering through this confusion, measure your feet and figure out your UK shoe size.

Instructions

  1. 1

Put your piece of paper onto a hard floor in front of a chair, then sit down on the chair and place your foot onto the piece of paper.

  2. 2

Trace around your foot with the pencil. Keep the pencil straight up-and-down as you do this, rather than angling it toward or away from your foot. Also make sure that the pencil is firmly in contact with your foot as you trace.

  3. 3

Remove your foot from the paper.

  4. 4

Draw a straight line across the paper at the tip of your longest toe and another parallel line at the back of the heel.

  5. 5

Measure the distance between the two lines with your ruler, then subtract 0.2 inches from this length.

  6. 6

Determine your UK shoe size by finding the length of your foot in the following list and reading the corresponding UK shoe size:
