How to Find the Compaq Model Number

Updated January 25, 2018

Computers come with a bewildering variety of identification information. In addition to the manufacturer's name, a desktop or laptop computer typically includes a model and series name, along with a product number, serial number and UPC number. For example, the Compaq Presario CQ62-410us Notebook PC has a part number of XG958UA#ABA and a universal product code, or UPC number, of 8-86111-26157-4. Once you know what you're looking for, however, you can find a Compaq model number fairly easily.

Locate the service tag on your Compaq computer. The tag is usually on the bottom of a laptop computer, and on the back, side or inside the drive door of a desktop model. The tag is labelled "service tag" and will likely have an HP logo, since HP manufactures Compaq computers.

Identify the product name, such as Compaq Presario C700. The number with the name is sometimes referred to as the model number.

Identify the p/n number, which is a part number for the computer. The p/n number is also sometimes referred to as the model number.

Enter the number or numbers you identified into a search system, if you are asked to provide the model number. For example, a technical support website may ask you to provide your model number. Try both numbers to see which one produces the desired result.
