Replacing the speakers in your Chevy Silverado is the easiest way to enjoy better sound without spending a fortune on high-end audio components. The year and trim package of the Silverado makes a great deal of difference when giving install instructions. The front door speakers always measure 6.5 inches. If you have rear door speakers, they are 4 x 6 inch speakers. If you do not have speakers in your rear door, they are located in the dash. The dash speakers are 3.5 inches, but are most often replaced with 4-inch speakers, since they are bigger and still fit into the 3.5-inch brackets.

Instructions

    Door Speakers (Front or Rear)

  1. 1

Pop off the trim around the door handle. If you have power windows, you will need to pop off the panel around the buttons. If your windows are manual, you will need to unscrew the window crank.

  2. 2

Pull the door panel up (but not out) until it slides off of its clips.

  3. 3

Unscrew the two screws around the speaker with a Phillips screwdriver. Some trucks do not have screws to hold the speakers in place. If your truck is one of them, all you have to do to remove the speaker is to unhook it from the clip holding it in place.

  4. 4

    Plug in the new speakers.

  5. 5

Screw the speakers back into the factory mounting holes. If the speakers used clips to hold them in place, you will need to drill two new holes through the plastic surround to hold them in place. Drill only through the plastic, to avoid damaging the door or the window.

  6. 6

Put the door panel back on by lining it up, and then pushing it in while sliding it downward. You will hear it snap into place.

  7. 7

Reattach the trim panels by pushing them down and popping them into place. If you have manual windows, screw the window crank back on now.

    Dash Speakers

  1. 1

Pry the speaker grill up with a flathead screwdriver.

  2. 2

    Unscrew the speakers.

  3. 3

Unplug the factory wiring plug from the back of the speakers.

  4. 4

Plug the factory wiring plug into the new speakers.

  5. 5

Screw the new speakers into the dash.

  6. 6

Replace the speaker grill by lining it up over the speakers and pressing down until it snaps into place.
