Unlocking your BlackBerry's capability to be used as a tethered modem lets you create a wireless network using your phone's mobile Internet connection. Apple's iPod Touch has wireless capabilities but cannot connect directly to a mobile network. Using your BlackBerry as a tethered modem lets you connect your iPod touch to the Internet wherever your phone has a steady mobile connection. There are multiple applications that allow a BlackBerry phone to be used as a tethered modem, but not every model supports this feature. Double-check your BlackBerry phone's model to ensure you can use it to power your iPod Touch's wireless connection.

Skill level:

  1. 1

Download a wireless modem application for your BlackBerry mobile phone such as Tether BlackBerry. These applications turn your phone into a mobile hot spot, allowing any computer or mobile device in range to connect to the Internet using your phone's connection. Open the application on your phone. Set the permissions (a window will pop up) to allow the application to access your phone's wireless connection. Restart your BlackBerry phone.

  2. 2

Connect the phone to your mobile network (make sure that you have a stable connection or you will not be able to use your phone as a hot spot). Open the application and follow the on-screen instructions to set up your mobile hot spot.

  3. 3

Open iPod Touch's wireless settings. Locate your BlackBerry's wireless network. Enter password if you used one. Open the Safari browser on your iPod Touch to ensure your phone's network is running properly.
