Connecting an overhead projector to a computer is simple. All you need is to connect both devices to a power source and connect them to each other with the cables that come with the projector. Basically the overhead projector takes the place of a computer monitor. Once it's attached, all you need to do is focus and orient the projector toward the screen and display your presentation.

  1. 1

Disconnect the keyboard, mouse, video cable and any other external device connected to the computer. Disconnect the computer from its current location and place it under or to the side of the projector, close enough so the cables can connect the two devices. Reconnect the keyboard and mouse in this new location. Connect the power cord to the computer and to the wall outlet.

  2. 2

Locate the VGA port on the back of the projector. Connect the VGA cable that comes with the projector to the port. Tighten the screws by hand with your fingers. Just tighten them until they are firm, do not overtighten. Connect the power cable to the overhead projector, if it is not already connected, and connect the other end to the power outlet.

  3. 3

Locate a VGA port on the computer, it will be similar in size and colour as that on the projector. Connect the other end of the VGA cable to this port. Tighten the screws by hand until they feel firm.

  4. 4

Turn on the computer and projector and allow them both to boot up. If you do not see anything on the screen, press the "Fn and "F8" key simultaneously. You should see the image on the overhead screen. If there is still no picture, check your computer keyboard for the blue function screen icon, which will be on one of the "F#" keys. Otherwise, check your computer manual to see which function key turns on the alternate screen.

  5. 5

Focus the image with the lens adjustments. Follow the projector's manual to see how the focus adjustment works best.
